About the Program

The GJ Fellows Program is a critical component of this strategically aligned pipeline. It provides young journalists of color recently graduated or currently finishing college with training in video, audio, and print journalism, as well as invaluable networking and exposure through interactions with local, national, and international journalists.

Description

Duties and Responsibilities

The list of duties and responsibilities for Fellows includes but is not limited to:

  • Upholding high-quality media standards
  • Participating in evaluation of the fellowship
  • Production assistance on weekly radio program: background research (analysis and synthesizing information), conducting interviews, engineering, writing scripts, audio editing, music selection
  • Clear and constant communication on projects, deadlines, and ongoing activities
  • Active participation in a training program with local and national journalists and media activists
  • Weekly writing/blogging assignments on current events or other topics
  • Technical (pre and post) assistance on video productions
  • Participating in other forms of media creation
  • Weekly media research and reading assignments
  • Regular reflections on work, trainings, and other program activities
  • Participation in local and national media and racial justice campaigns
  • Remote recordings at community events
  • Work on Digital/Social Media campaigns
  • Participate in production planning and decision making
  • Implementing best practices of Positive Youth Development in assisting to guide middle/high school youth in media creation

In order to fulfill the responsibilities, the Fellows will be given support, guidance, training and compensation.
