In an effort to combat the obesity epidemic among Hispanics in the U.S., LULAC spearheaded the Latinos Living Healthy Initiative to introduce policy makers, the public health community and community leaders to policy priorities that benefit the health and wellness of the Latino community through programmatic and policy efforts.

Description

Internship Qualifications:

  • Open to students interested in public policy, health, social work, federal advocacy or health program management.
  • Candidates must have excellent oral communication, research, organization, and writing skills.
  • The position will work closely on the Latinos Living Healthy initiative, though opportunities will be available to work on areas in obesity, hunger, poverty, Affordable Care Act, food insecurity, and environmental issues as the need arises.

Internship Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to the development of policy fact sheets, reports, manuals, and other literature regarding the Latinos Living Healthy initiative or any health programs and/or health interests of our membership and partners;
  • Assist in the development and follow up of case studies highlighting promising practices in obesity prevention and community advocacy efforts;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of advocacy events as they occur through support which may include outreach to health and government professionals, advocacy partners, and members of the community;
  • Assist in the research and writing of health pieces for the LULAC National News Magazine, the monthly LULAC e-newsletter and other publications as necessary;
  • Work with our 1000 councils nationwide to distribute information and engage a variety of health issue areas;
  • Provide support for LULAC National staff in different capacities as it relates to the Latinos Living Healthy Initiative
