CHCI seeks a bright, motivated college student or recent graduate to provide essential assistance to its Marketing & Communications team. The Intern will help promote large-scale, national events and build valuable, professional contacts in the Washington D.C. area. This is an excellent opportunity to further a career in marketing and/or social media. CHCI internships provide students hands on experience in the organization's mission of developing the next generation of Latino leaders, while honing their own leadership skills and making important career development connections. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Marketing Intern works closely with the communications team to help promote the organization’s key programmatic fundraising events, Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM). The 2013 HHM events will be celebrated from September 30 to October 2 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Attendance is anticipated to exceed 4,000 attendees for CHCI’s Public Policy Conference and 36th Annual Awards Gala. Combined, these events represent the largest and most prestigious gathering of Hispanic leaders in the nation. Attendees and guests will include national leaders, elected officials, corporate executives, community activists, educators, entertainers, and media personalities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern’s primary projects will be coordinating social media in support of the MarCom Manager. • Help research and curate content for social media • Help develop a Social Media Toolkit for speakers, panelists, and media partners • Help develop a Facebook Trivia Contest using Wildfire for Hispanic Heritage Month • Some general office administration This is an unpaid internship; however, the intern will receive letters of recommendation as appropriate, along with an evaluation upon completion. Flexible schedule: hours and length of commitment are negotiable. The intern will be invited to work onsite September 29 – October 2 for the event and gala. Description |
QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be tech savvy with a firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space • Knowledge of HTML, WordPress, and graphic design desired. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop a plus. • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations) • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus • An effective communicator, both written and oral • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines • Enthusiasm for the mission of CHCI • Bilingual (English-Spanish) is a plus, not required |
