About the Program

This internship supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing a variety of learning opportunities and services to several NEA Centers and/or departments. A limited number of volunteer, unpaid internships are available at the National Education Association. The internship program will be accepting applications until all positions are filled. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act: The position involves analytical and problem-solving skills; use of clear and articulate speech; written/oral communication skills; interpersonal and customer service skills; light lifting (up to 10 lbs.); use of a computer keyboard; sitting/standing for long periods and ability to travel by various means, e.g., train, plane, automobile. Position Summary: The NEA partners with institutions of higher education and other organizations to identify interns- generally juniors, seniors, recent college graduates or graduate students- who are interested in public education policy and education issues. Students pursuing degrees in Education, Political Science, Journalism and Communications, International Relations, Finance, Information Technology, Business Administration and Human Resources are encouraged to apply. The volunteer internship program provides interns with training and learning opportunities and a variety of rich and substantive programmatic work experiences that support quality public education. These experiences may include conducting research; data analysis; writing, editing, using Internet applications and social media; participating in and assisting with meetings and policy forums; visits to Capitol Hill; and other appropriate program-related activities. The internships range from six weeks to a full semester. The Summer 2015 volunteer internship session will begin on or about June 9, 2015 and end on August 27, 2015. Volunteer interns may work 25-35 hours a week (based on specific program requirements) and receive course credit for the experience.
