About the Program

The Editorial intern will assist the Editorial team in writing, editing, researching, fact-checking, and publishing a wide variety of digital and print content. Outlets include the PreservationNation.org website, PreservationNation blog, and Preservation magazine. Responsibilities include administrative support. Selection will be based on the candidate’s demonstrated writing ability, familiarity with tech platforms, and interest in/involvement with subject matter. This is a volunteer internship. A $1,000/month stipend is offered to help offset expenses. Duties Write, edit, fact-check, and proofread a variety of blog posts, magazine content, and other materials as assigned Research stories and images for online and print Publish blog posts in Wordpress Assist with multimedia production Manage the @PreservationMag Twitter account Manage submissions to the Calendar of Events Participate in campaign planning where appropriate Perform administrative tasks as assigned

Requirements

Description

Qualifications Must have some reporting/writing experience (clips are required) Must be able to commit at least 32 hours/week for six months Must be responsible, motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable with collaboration Communication skills that come from good listening techniques; a clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills Excellent organization and project management skills Ability to manage time, adhere to regular deadlines, prioritize quickly, and readjust priorities throughout the day Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Strong knowledge of AP Style and grammar Fact-checking experience preferred Previous experience with blogging platforms, social media, and/or CMS platforms preferred (Wordpress a plus) BA or graduate degree in journalism, writing, English, communications, history, or a related field preferred Demonstrated interest in subject matter (history, architecture, historic preservation) a plus
