Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, our mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. The Opportunity The Feeding America Internship Program offers students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-building experience in public policy. Interning at Feeding America provides an excellent introduction to policy analysis, lobbying, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and advocacy communications. Interns gain firsthand experience in domestic hunger and nutrition policy and Congressional politics. Interns work closely with Feeding America staff to promote Feeding America’s policy agenda on hunger and nutrition assistance programs to a variety of audiences, including grassroots activists, congressional staff and other stakeholders. Responsibilities Staying informed about specific legislation and policy issues and general political trends and providing written and oral updates to Feeding America staff about developments on issues and legislation. -Attending and taking notes at Congressional hearings, meetings, and briefings. -Conducting research on policy issues and legislation. -Writing memos and fact sheets on policy issues and legislation. -Compiling and formatting data on hunger and poverty related issues and programs. -Accompanying Feeding America staff to lobby members of Congress. -Scheduling meetings with and making deliveries to Congressional offices. -Completing some administrative tasks such as faxing, copying, and mailings. -Special projects as assigned.

Description

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. -Demonstrated interest in hunger and nutrition, the legislative process, and politics. -Excellent written and oral communication skills. -Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. -Professionalism in interaction with coworkers. -Ability to positively represent Feeding America on the phone and in person. -Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and with limited supervision. -Assertiveness to ask for help when needed. -Familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. -Enthusiasm for Feeding America’s work and mission.
