About the Program

The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) is seeking a Communications Intern to provide direct support to the Communications Department and its effort to gather and disseminate information relevant to the mission of local public television stations. The desirable skills of the successful applicant include the ability to conduct in-depth research, analysis and compilation of information; superb writing and verbal communications skills; and a strong attention to detail. High school or college newspaper experience a plus. The Intern will assist the Communications Department in using new media tools, including social networking sites, blogs, the Association website and other online media, to promote the initiatives that APTS undertakes on behalf of local public television stations. The Intern will support public television’s political advocacy efforts, both direct and grassroots, before the Administration, Congress and the Federal Communications Commission. Additionally, the intern will prepare written materials communicating essential aspects of APTS legislative and regulatory agendas, and research and summarize station activities to be used as content for communications with the media, policymakers, the grassroots network and APTS member stations. APTS is seeking someone with availability in the winter semester (January through March) for a minimum of 32 hours a week. Commuting costs will be reimbursed up to company limits. A bonus stipend is available based on work quality.
