The award-winning Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars program is American University's only Honors and Scholars community for inspiring undergraduates committed to excellence, social impact, and a lifetime of giving. The program fosters a respectful learning environment in which highly successful students, faculty, staff, and alumni come together to seek creative solutions to the most pressing problems of our time. The program also offers AU's most generous, merit-based scholarship (full tuition, room, board, books, and fees).

Description

Admission is very competitive and limited to a freshmen class of five ambitious students each year. Diverse in their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, age, ability, religion, and sexual orientation, Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership experience, and demonstrated service in under-resourced communities.
