About the Program

The Council of Mexican Federations in North America(COFEM), its affiliated Federations, and sponsoring partners have come together to provide scholarships to outstanding students who are immigrants or of immigrant descent and are affiliated to a COFEM Federation or Club or is an AB-540/DACA student and are pursuing a higher education. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a 4-year accredited University or a 2-year program at a Community College*. Through a fundraising and matching collaborative, the goal of this year’s effort is to award scholarships in the amounts of $500 to students attending a Community College and $1,000 to undergraduate students attending a 4 year College/University.

Requirements

Description
  •  Be an AB-540/DACA Student.
  • If not an AB-540/DACA student, must be a member or related to a member of a COFEM affiliated Federation or Club.
  •  Must be considered a full-time student or enrolled in at least 12 units at a 4 year institution or 2-year community college.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Demonstrate involvement in the community and/or work experience.
  • Must reside or attend school in the following counties only: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Inland Empire, and Ventura County.
  • Be able to participate in the 2015 Annual Scholarship Reception on November 19, 2015 and COFEM’s 2016 Annual Conference and Expo on date to be determined.
  • Other volunteer opportunities will be available throughout the year (i.e. Immigration marches, DACA clinics, Citizenship Fairs).
  • Any student who becomes a scholarship recipient must complete a total of 25 hours (Community College recipients) or 50 hours (4 year College/University) of volunteer service to COFEM.
  • Families of Board of Directors and/or COFEM staff are not allowed to apply.
  • Students can apply to this scholarship for a maximum of 3 consecutive years if they complete the agreed hours.
