About the Program

The GCE-US Youth Advocacy Training is a biannual training program that not only equips students and young professionals with information about education for all but also trains them in ways to tell others. During the training, participants work with and learn from our coalition members about how to advocate for equal access to a quality education worldwide. In addition to an in-depth look at international education issues, policies, and actors, advocates participate in skills training in: grassroots and grasstops organizing, event planning, community mapping, online organizing and more. This training is the beginning of a long-term experience in advocacy for global education. Each participant will take the tools learned at the training home to his/her own community and engage in monthly actions for a six-month commitment period with support from the GCE-US team. The Fall 2014 advocacy training will take place from October 17-21, 2014. The training will begin with dinner on Friday, October 17 (traveling to D.C. during the day). Programming are full days on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, 2014. Trainees will visit the D.C. office of their Members of Congress on Monday, October 20, 2014. The training will end on the evening of Monday, October 20 and trainees will leave on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 unless otherwise arranged. Travel (to and from D.C.), meals and lodging is covered. To be considered for the training or future trainings, you must be 18-25 at the time of the training, permanently reside in the U.S., be able to attend the entire training, complete the application and submit a letter of recommendation from a person who can speak to your involvement on your campus or in your community. This is a competitive scholarship opportunity and submission of a completed application does not ensure participation. If you have any questions, email info@gce-us.org. The Fall Application is now closed. To receive notification of the opening of our Spring Application, sign up for our action alerts, here.
