About the Program

The Melissa Mon­toya Schol­ar­ship was estab­lished in 2013 to assist women with a pas­sion for teach­ing in ele­men­tary and sec­ondary edu­ca­tion. The schol­ar­ship is named in honor of Melissa Mon­toya, a Founder of Kappa Delta Chi Soror­ity, Inc. Melissa has been edu­cat­ing chil­dren in spe­cial edu­ca­tion and kinder­garten for over 16 years. The schol­ar­ship is avail­able on a com­pet­i­tive basis and is a one-time award.

Requirements

Description
  • Appli­cants must have col­lege tran­script proof of a 3.0 GPA
  • Appli­cants must be enrolled in a four-year higher edu­ca­tion insti­tu­tion
  • Appli­cants must com­plete a total of 100 com­mu­nity ser­vice hours at 1–3 com­mu­nity service/volunteer orga­ni­za­tions that focus on work­ing with children/teens.
  • Appli­cants must receive a let­ter or let­ters of rec­om­men­da­tion from leader(s) of one or more of the orga­ni­za­tions ver­i­fy­ing the appli­cant has served the total of 100 com­mu­nity ser­vice hours in the past year.
  • Appli­cants must com­plete an online appli­ca­tion, answer essay ques­tions, and com­plete all required forms to be con­sid­ered for the schol­ar­ship.
