About the Program |
As we continue to work towards universal equality, people of all ages, genders, classes, and races are affected. The LBJ Foundation invites 12th grade students in Texas to explore the enduring issue of civil rights as it impacts them or those around them in the LBJ "Civil Rights Today" Essay Contest.
Topic: The essay must articulate (1) how civil rights remains and enduring issue in society and (2) one aspect of the Civil Rights of 1964 that impacts the writer's life today. Topics include discrimination, minority rights, religious rights, rights of persons with disabilities, and other civil rights issues. |

Requirements
Description |
Essays must contain no more than 800 words. Citations and bibliography are not included in the word count. Essays must be submitted via email by midnight on February 10, 2014. All students must complete and submit an online registration form with personal and school information in order to qualify. Instructions on how to submit your essay are available at www.lbjlibrary.org. The sponsoring teacher may be a current or former teacher of the participating student but must be teaching at the same school the student is attending. Students must include the name of their nominating teacher on the registration form. The first place winner and his/her nominating teacher will be invited to receive awards at the LBJ Presidential Library Civil Right Summit to be held in Austin, Texas in April 2014. |
