About the Program

LULAC is seeking an energetic undergraduate student interested in education, Latino lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality, passionate about advocacy, community organizing and program management. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication, research, and organizational skills. The position will work with the LULAC Director of Policy and Legislation who co-chairs the Hispanic Education Coalition and manages LULAC’s Education Advocacy Program: Prompting High School Success (focus on Common Core Standards implementation). The position will also work with LULAC’s staff lead on the LULAC Equality Project, which builds partnerships with LULAC’s Rainbow councils, LGBT advocates in 10 states and national LGBT partner organizations. With those partners, the position will implement and track a public education campaign, Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) state and federal advocacy and participate in a planning committee to host a day-long LGBT Latino Institute at the Creating Change Conference. The position will also assist in any other capacity needed as it pertains to LULAC’s programs and events. Current LULAC programs serve communities across the United States.

Description

Internship Responisbilites and Duties:

  • Assist the team with collecting and analyzing program data;
  • Assist with the development of the End of Year reports;
  • Develop trainings to disseminate information to all the program sites;
  • Write content for and update the LULAC Education and LGBT website pages using Arcos content management system;
  • Create content for and oversee graphic design of fact sheets, reports, and other factual documents as needed;
  • Assist in the development of upcoming LULAC events across the U.S. as needed;
  • Research and write a quarterly Education and LGBT articles for the LULAC National News Magazine and for the LULAC Blog as needed;
  • Participate in advocacy projects throughout the course of the internship;
  • Host calls with state teams to organize state and federal advocacy days related to Education and LGBT priority issues;
  • Participate in weekly planning committee calls for the LGBT Latino Institute.
