About the Program

We’re seeking a highly organized, motivated individual with a strong passion for social justice to help support the goals and objectives of the Campaigns and Outreach Team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Drafting advocacy and legislative support letters and other materials, including talking points and op-eds;
• Research policy positions of elected officials and candidates;
• Research potential allies and partner organizations at the state and federal level on our core issues;
• Compile statistics from sources such as the US Census Bureau and secondary research materials;
• Attend coalition meetings;
• Track news coverage and events on our core issues;
• Other responsibilities, as requested.

The Campaigns and Outreach Intern will earn a wage of $12.25 hourly. In addition, Demos offers sick days to be accrued on a pro-rated basis. Candidates who are able to work full-time are strongly preferred; however, qualified part-time candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Description

The successful candidate will possess:

1. A strong interest in issues of social justice;
2. Strong, persuasive writing skills;
3. Attention to detail;
4. Excellent phone presentation and public speaking skills.
5. Interest in expanding their analysis and knowledge about the role that racial equity plays in our society, and has a strong interest in building or deepening their commitment to racial justice work.

We are more interested in these five qualities than in any particular amount of experience. However, prior experience in a non-profit environment is a plus. Candidates must bring a strong commitment to excellence and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Applicants with journalism experience and interests are particularly encouraged to apply.
